Housing Industry Model

Summit has developed an effective diagram of how the whole homebuilding industry works.  This step by step guide lays out the primary functions that make up the industry, then integrates both the support industries and the business processes that enable these primary functions.  From there, Summit identifies the critical trends that can affect each of these functions.  Finally, Summit identifies several broad strategic options for homebuilders in each of these areas.

 

Performance Capability Evolution Model

This powerful model explains how companies can evolve their performance over time. As companies work to improve performance they need to develop many specific business capabilities.  Successful companies progress through multiple stages of evolution, moving from functional to efficient, to internally optimized and then, finally, to externally synergistic. This model describes the four stages of evolution across ten different, but integrated, areas of the company. 

 

Example Strategy Map

Strategy Maps are used to by companies to visually represent their key strategic objectives in a simple to understand diagram.  The diagram is essential in effectively communicating strategy across the organization and aligning individual job focus with significant company goals.  The example Strategy Map shows a balance of strategic objectives linked in order to identify cause and effect relationships.

 

Example Balanced Scorecard

The Balanced Scorecard is a tool that monitors a company’s performance in meeting the strategic objectives defined in a Strategy Map.  For each objective, the Balanced Scorecard describes how progress will be measured, what results have been achieved and defines future targets for performance.  The Balanced Scorecard becomes a critically valuable tool in setting internal priorities for improvement.
